It’s the freakin’ end of March already!!!!?????….. What the heck is with that?…. Next thing you know, that funny fat fella in the red suit will be shuffling down your chimney dropping off your nice shiny new toys, and you’ll be getting revved up for that new years resolution!!!! But before that faithful day arrives we need to get through a few not so insignificant events and no doubt a few life changing ones….. The events of the world these past months have driven home the need to commune and support your fellow man…. I like to think that it some way, this here forum does a little of that…. We have ourselves a nice little community happening here…. Never before has the WA veedub scene had such a strong following…. I’d like to think that the NoH2O forum has had something to do with that…. We are seeing more and more peeps getting together and supporting each other in there endeavours… More reports of road side help being offered, more busy bee days at someones shed, more regular gatherings of a general social sort and more and more goodtimes….

A case in point…. These guys you see in the above pic, took the time to come down to the Nostalgia Drags last weekend, to support a few of us drag racing nutters….

The hero of the day had to be Paul and his mighty black 56….

A huge effort….After only a handful of runs under the loud pedal, Paul has managed to get well into the low 13 second bracket, clocking over 100mph!

Next up we have the big block build thread from the house of Beaver…. Joel is putting together a 2165 stroker for his old man’s Splitty Panel…. I don’t think ol’Bob has a clue about the power he will have at his disposal once this beast get’s out on the road!
Other projects of note would have to be Chris’ Bug project…. He’s just got the machine on the road and it’s looking mighty fine…. Have a look at this little time lapse video for the lowdown on the engine build….
That’ll do…. You get the idea…. Get out there, have a look around the forum, get involved….

That’s right folks…. January is all but over…. And what I hear you ask have I got to show for it….. Nothing actually… My VW world has been very quiet…. Fortunately you lot have been doing what you do, to keep the dream alive….. Josh has been good enough to let Hoodwink move the bus into his yard and help Hoody get the PV closer to completion….

This old girl is looking mighty fine…. The story is awesome, this build has been tough, but the outcome is looking amazing…. Check out his projects thread (he’s got a few!) for more deets….
Other projects coming to the end of the very long restoration road, is Steff’s Turkis Bus….

You gotta see this thread, it bloody awesome!…. A massive build thread to be sure…. And one not to be missed.
Something else….. Wanna see a Bug?…. I got a couple for you….. First up is Just’s beige roller….

I have seen this car come through a huge amount of work… Just must be congratulated for putting this car together…. The budget was low, the free time was next to nil, the space was an open carport, but the man has pulled it off…. Awesome streeter Just…. You should be stoked!
And finally we have Deano’s red roller…. My god what a transformation!!!!

That’ll do…. Enough of the car stuff…. I’ll close with a few events tips…. The Fairbridge Festival is coming, the Classic Car Show at Whiteman Park is just around the corner, and finally the BugIn is nearly upon us… All these events are shaping up to be huge…. I’ll make the national cruise from Melbourne to the BugIn here in Perth, and hope to make a few of the events over the Easter weekend…. Fairbridge is lined up too…. Just need to buy the tickets…. Dunno about Whiteman Park…. I’m sure the contingent will make a good showing.
I’m sure your all rev’ed for this coming season….

That’s right folks…. It’s Australia Day…. A day of national celebration, a day to pat your compatriot on the back and say ‘goodonya bloke’, a day to swill some amber fluid, to burn some meat, to throw a few doe’ies, to slap the missus and watch the Aussie’s kick the Pom’s collective arse’s at the cricket…. It’s Australia Day!
But back to the matter at hand, the reason we are all here, the modus operandi so to speak… Dubbin’…. Or more specifically, Dubbin’ in WA.

It’s actually been pretty quiet around here of late…. Still coming down from the high’s of the November and December show’s I guess…. It’s also been dang hot… Too hot to get into the shed, and dare I say it, too hot to go for a drive!…. Well during the day at least…. I know a few of the guys have been away on road trips with the family in tow, I’ve been continually messing with the fuel system on the POS, my bro has laid down some nice quarter mile times with his BD 23 (low 18’s!), Deadkombi has blitzed the local NA dubbers with a blistering 13.5 (I think?) to make him the quickest NA street dub in WA…

Also….. Everyone is on holidays… Bernie took the family up to Wedge in the Bus…. Mozzie has been checking out the coastline…. Sam has been out testing the torsion bars on his 11 Winda, and Jamie’s been getting jiggy with his camera again….

So the crew have been up to their usual…. All good in my book!
So we’ll see ya’ll next month…. Everyone have a solid and safe Australia Day!

Oh yes boys and girls, the silly season is upon us once more… I dunno where the time goes, but life seems to be passing us by at an alarming rate!…. I remember when I was a kid (back in the dark ages), days use to be so long, and weeks took forever…. Forget about years…. That was an eternity!!!!!…. These days its very different story…. I know its all about the concept of time and our perception of it, and we could go so much further into this idea, but I wont…. It’s a deeply interesting topic, and one I will save for another time…. We’re here for the dubs and the awesome times we have as a result of them…. So what do I have to add for the closing of the year?

It’s actually been a pretty big one for the ‘collective’….. Many new members, awesome projects starting anew and many long running ones completed, along with some very challenging automotive problems met head on….. I finally got my car to the drag strip, only to have some problems with crap fuel… Ultimately putting an end to my first foray back to the track…. Roll on next year I say…. January is looking good for some grudge racing hey?…. Paul has that black beast of his (his car!!!!) up and running…. Hopefully he’ll have it fully dialed in by next month…. Bernie is threatening to have his awesome Oval back on the track too and my brother, Choppa has recently acquired a new larger turbo for his Notch…. Craig’s new efi, turbo stroker has arrived and there a distinct possibility of a monster NA stroker splitty hitting the track at some point next year also….

And finally I come to the DoVW…. A really good day once again….. NoH2O had their annual pre-event cruise, which started at my place (12 VW’s started from there), then we hooked up with another 20 Dubs at Vic Park, then cruised en masse to the show area at Burswood….

The VW Club of WA did a great job putting on the event, and the ‘collective’ is looking forward to making an even bigger collective showing next year!
That’ll do…. Have a great Christmas and new year everyone….. See ya’ll on the other side!

Dang!… Seems like it was only yesterday that the collective’s premier event was on, but it’s been over two weeks now…. I’m still on a high from it!… Over 100 VW’s turned up on the day, many cars we have never seen before, and also plenty of the regulars…. The Munster boys put on a good showing as always…. I noticed a number of Munster Garage ‘customer’ cars in attendance also!

Feedback has been very good…. From the general punters in the street who got to see VW’s of all shapes and sizes, the Freo Council, the festival event participants and of course, all of you guys…. I thank you all for your support and encouragement… Comments on the day and since, have been extremely positive… The Freo Council want us back, there was absolutely no troubles on the day, all the event managers got stuck in and helped where needed and all said they’re looking forward to the next one…. The venue was amazing, with over 100 VW owners and their families in attendance, the day provided a massive variety of entertainment…. The kites, the clear blue skies, the vintage barnstorming aerobatics, the parachutists, the live entertainment, I tell you, it’s gonna be real hard to top it next year!!!!… There are some great shots that have been posted by Jean, Mozzie and Joel and few others of the day…. If you haven’t had a gander at them yet, be sure to have a look… There’s some in the “Events” section and some in the “What’s up” section…
Next up I would like to remind everyone of the pending “Day of the VW” at Burswood next month…. As is usual, the VW Club of WA are pulling out all the stops to bring us yet another fine event… And don’t forget…. NoH2O are continuing the tradition of hosting a pre-event cruise to the show, leaving Vic Park Shopping Centre carpark…. For those of you that live south of the creek and close to the coast, we will most likely have a pre-pre-event cruise leaving my place once again….. We had over 20 VW’s at place last year…. It was huge!!!!
Let me know if your up for it!

Nearly blew the month by without an update…. My god I can’t drop the ball now!!!!…. But to be honest, I do have a good excuse… The show is all but sorted, only the will of (insert preferred deity here), can it be stopped now!!!!
I suppose I should say something of real value this month instead of the usual drivel… So here goes….
The NoH2O stickers and T-shirts will be on-sale at the “Free’n'Easy” along with a snappy limited edition poster to commemorate the return of the event….

Other news to hand is that the forum is about to click over to having 250 members!!!!!…. Woooohooo!…. Who’dathaunk we would ever make the dizzying heights of 250 members… Also the posts are coming thick and fast from a few of the site regular visitors…. That said…. I have noticed that there are a number of members that are yet to contribute to the forum in anyway…. I’m not sure why that is… Maybe some of you guys feel you don’t have anything to say, or anything to add to the conversations going on here… But I can tell you all this…. Forums are here to help you, here to develop ideas, here to build camaraderie in support of our VW endeavours and most of all to communicate…. I hope that in the future more of you guys will get into the chat, when help is called for, to offer a hand to dubbers in need, get involved and be active both on here and out there…. Enough of the sermon…
Finally…. I like to let you know a little about a certain bug that has been getting a little love of late…. Just’s Bug to be exact…

Just started with a pretty cherry dub in the beginning, but like all projects, there were a few little things that needed doing… After what seemed like an age (for Just at least!) the car is back on the black top and looking all the better for it!
Well done mate!

Another month has passed us by and what have we got to show for it?…. Plenty I tellsya!… This past month has shown me that the local scene is doing fine….

Word is out, the NoH2O “Free’n'Easy” is just around the corner, and the various forums are all a flutter….. Good to hear…. The WA VW Club members are looking to make a good showing, hopefully some of the FV guys will make it out, I hear the WA Watercooled guys are planning to join us, and the Kombi Konnection crowd are coming too…. I know the WA Offroad guys have also been informed…. I think we might fill up that parking lot pretty quickly!
Some of the ‘collective’ have been traveling the globe of late…. And some of the images they have dropping back to us have been mighty cool…. Bob showed us that he has a mighty fine eye for things a little tatty… Have a look at what he spotted at Vanfest….

Is it just me or is Bob a ‘one-eyed’ about splitties?
Finally I’d like to remind everyone of “Choppas Drag Day” that’s happening before the two big shows coming up, and also the two evening events we are running every month…. “Alfred’s” is the first Wednesday of every month, and “The Como” is the third Thursday…. Both are very cool events and are not to be missed…
See ya out there…

This month nearly passed me by…. Seems to be a constantly reoccurring situation for me, and one I have no real excuse for…. But I have just made it in time, and with some good news of the coming season….
First up…. There are a few of the local hotrodding dubs getting a little road time…. After some fairly major build ups, some new drivelines are getting a hammering in preparation for the coming drag season.. The Munster Garage fellas are putting together some stroker donks for their own projects… Bernie is building up a supercharged number for his bus so I hear…. Deadkombi’s 56 Oval has recently acquired a new heart… All 2276cc of Italian IDA fed meatiness!…. Word has it that this oldschool donk has plenty of power and loads of history…. One day I hope that Paul (Deadkombi) gets his lead foot out of the carbs for long enough to let us all in on this engines history, and maybe a little insight into what he did to get it together recently…

Also…. The POS is back together…. Back in the turbo guise…. No rego…. Some improvements to the set-up and some changes to the fuel system…. A few minor things to sort out, before some dyno time to get the mixtures right…. Then its down to the Motorplex for a little V8 spanking!….. I hope we can get a few of the other hotrod Dubs down there to give it what for!
Finally….. I’d like to let everyone know, that there are two and possibly three new NoH2O events in the works…. First up, Paul and Sandy are getting the Como Hotel gathering happening again…. It’ll be on the third Thursday of every month…. Be sure to check the events thread for more info…. The other big news is that the “Free’n'Easy” is making a come back…. November 6th is the date…. Once again, its an after noon slot… South Beach Fremantle, western side of the railway…. We have space for around 100 cars I reckon…. We are once again joining forces with the Fremantle Kite Extravaganza for this one… But this time we have the “Two Wheels Good” crowd in the loop and all with the support of the Fremantle City Coucil….. More details as I pull it all together…. And finally…. Another display is being put together for February 16th at Scarborough Beach…. This one is part of the Stirling Council Summer Festival closing event…. The day will start with a navigation rally that will venture all around Perth, finishing at the Scarborough Beach Amphitheater in the late afternoon….. A free concert on the beach, fireworks show and VW’s…. Does it get any better?… Again, more details as they come together.
That will do for now…. I got some work to do.

As the heading suggests, it’s a tad quiet around these parts. No real news to report other than the “Free’n'Easy” show it looking more likely as the days roll by…. Another event in the pipeline is a VDub display at Scarborough Beach early in the new year…. Both Fremantle and Stirling Councils are very keen to have us there… More news will be posted in the events sections as I pull it all together….
As for cars entering the ‘collective’…. There has been a few coming through…. Notably the sale of Stevie’s Ragtop to Deano… Look out for his adventures with car shortly after purchase…. Steff picked up a very tidy LHD late Notchback and Shayno bought a real oddball Squareback….

The builds in the collective are ongoing, but none more so that Josh’s low-light….

It’s a bloody good thread and the attention to detail makes for an inspired read.
Speaking of Josh…. He’s the lucky bastard that picked up one of the most sort after local PV’s in the state…. I sure hope he does the right thing here and post a suitable thread in the daily driver section….. Hint, hint….

And finally…. Steff’s got some paint on….

Time to go…. Catchya.

A bloody quick one this month….
Some cool shit happening over this side of Oz…. Andrew’s Mouse is finally home, Just’s 66 is getting ever closer, Kasey is enjoying the fruit’s of the Munster Garage’s labors and the final bits for my 2276 have finally arrived…. A good thing too, as the US to Oz exchange has recently taken a hammering, and we can no longer afford to import stuff without selling a kidney!
Speaking of over priced items….

The seller on theSamba is asking 4k for this little item…. I think it’s pretty good of him to cover the cost of shipping!!!

Other news is more interesting…. Fabo “the worlds most beautiful man” is converting his lil’red Dub to IRS, with some help from a friendly ghost and some weird guy with a camera and funny hat.

News from deepest darkest Forrestfield is that “The Master of Mistfit’s” is at it again….. Jon is building a bomb…. At least that is what his neighbors think!!!! Apparently seeing this funny looking wing thing poking out of his front lawn, got the better of one of his neighbors…. The dude took one look at this thing and promptly lost control of his faculties and drove into Jon’s Syncro!…. Of course I don’t believe a word of it…. I reckon it was the unsettling sight of a the Sangung Musso parked in the driveway that got the better of him!
In closing this post I’ll leave you all with a little bit of a heads up…. There are another couple of Volksrods in the early build stages here in Perth, and that mid-engined street/race Oval is nearly done, so keep an eye on this here forum, you just might get the lowdown way before the rest of Oz.
Keep it going down the road….
