Well, I guess it's about time I started a thread for the build up of my next car, over the last few weeks I've started finishing off a Rod Penrose assembled 2176cc that I found on AVD.

The specs are as follows for those interested:

used Mexican fuel injected case with std tunnel , opened for 94mm and decked
new 78.4mm welded counterweighted crank , std rod and .010 mains
new Scat c45 cam and billet gear
new Scat solid lifters
new KS main bearings
new KS rod bearings
new Mahle dual thrust cam bearings
used 8 dowelled lightened flywheel
new cro-moly gland nut
new AA performance piston barrel kit
new AA 5.4'' cro-moly conrods
new CB 1431 CNC ported round port heads with 42 x 37.5 stainless valves and dual springs
new Manton cro-moly pushrods
new Scat 1.25 ratio rocker kit with swivel feet adjusters
new zinc push rod tubes
new crank gear kit
new case install kit
used dizzy drive ,shims and spring
new oil pressure switch
new 26mm shadek oil pump
new aluminium full flow oil pump

This engine has a compression ratio of 8.9:1 and will run good on unleaded or E10 fuel .

The plan as it stands now is to throw a few high tech parts at it and see what happens, I have sitting around a full MSD ignition system, CB Performance fuel injection system, A1 sidewinder (yes another one Laughing ), serpentine pulley set up........

I aim for maybe 140hp and stacks of torque, reliably

Andrew

I've had this kit since I was building the 1600 in my 66 however the need for a daily driver meant that I've never fitted it so I've ordered some new uprated injectors more suited to the application, and will fit an O2 sensor in the exhaust to keep an eye on mixtures, this also gives me the option of upgrading the ecu if its not doing what I want.

Still throwing up idea's about the transaxle, will definately need an upgrade there, but not sure about r&p and gear ratios. Considering going five speed but depends on the cost.

The only difference between the two that I can see is the placement of the injectors, not a problem in a bus but in a type 1 I needed the injectors inboard to fit the manifolds and throttle bodies. Ideally the injectors would spray directly towards the back of the intake valve for best performance, but with space restraints....comes compromise. I have kept the intake ports as a round port to encourage high air velocity past the injectors to compensate a little for the positioning and achieve best turbulence of the intake charge.

So John has finally come to the party with the Oval?

What O2 reader are you looking at getting? Or does the CB kit have a facility for that?

Lets get crackin'!

The car is still in the racking but it'll be making its way to my new place as soon as I annoy him enough to dig it out Laughing

Was looking at the analogue style guages by autometer, just cos I like the look, plus data logging ability for later Wink

Make sure it's wideband.... Narrowband is next to useless for tuning and accurate datalogging...

I would suggest one of these would be better....

http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/g5_gauge.php

the make a few different analog style gauges... But with high quality 'stepper motor' driven internals and true wideband datalogging....
