so ive bought myself an oval Smile
Its been sitting for a long time my mate dave has had it for 25 yrs and the bloke he bought it off was the original owner. It needs a bit of work to get it on the road but is solid the only rust i can find is in the bottom of the drivers door and the sill just behind it.
Ill be picking up some rear guards a taillight and a few other things that are still locked in a container next time i go through town.
Plan is to have is on the road by winter .
Anyway here it is
The colour looks like coral red to me

I would like to just tell a quick yarn/whing about the day leading to and the day of pickup. Need to vent Laughing
My last shift for the block (I work on roster underground in SA) I slept through my alarm so i was running late for work rang the boss he said no worries so i jumped in the old hilux and stopped at the servo for smokes.
When i came out the radiator had split and lost all the coolent, Rang the old man he dropped off the nissan so i could get to work. when i got underground i realized i had left my lunch in the car Evil or Very Mad So after a 12 shift running on coffee and smokes i got out to the car park and the battery was flat in the nissan.
lucky my mate had jumper leads but as i was hooking them up the bonnet slammed shut ( Im talking latched closed) on my hand. No real damage but hurt like shit.
That night i frantically patched the radiator with 2pac and hoped for the best.

The morning of pickup i tested the hilux and all was good Very Happy i grabbed a car trailer and headed on the 5hr trip top pick up the oval.
I got 10km out of town and the aircon compressor seized up so i had to cut the belt off.
Got to my mates house and stayed the night then headed to pick up the car.
Pulled out onto the highway with bug in tow and the wind pumps up to 60km with higher wind gusts heading from the north straight into the front of the old work ute cue 60-70km top speed all the way home. I was about half way and just happend to look in the mirror to see the spare tire fall off the trailer and bounce off into the scrub.
The end

oh well got it in the drive now Laughing

few picks of the trip and why its so shit to brake down out here Wink

This dude was at least 300km from the next town

started cleaning the rear seat today with gritty hand cleaner works pretty bloody well Very Happy

Top score, love that patina on the front end, and the orig. plate, can you keep it maybe as a personalised one. Cool

Yeah was the most dramatic Vw mission yet!!
That is a cool idea for the plates Rossco I'll be looking into it for sure Cool
So far seats are out and mats are up. floor needs to be hit a wire brush on the rear half but only surface rust. Battery tray solid. Looks like the indicator lever has been removed and a switch put in the dash for the trailer lights
not even 100% on the year yet Confused I can't remember if I count from right to left or left to right from the window dot. It's either 55 or 57 haha I'll check the pan number tonight

Is that good bad or just a bastard?
So it's a 36 bottom with a 40 top just read they are prone to imploding should I put a 36 top end on it ?

From what I just read on the samba they sound like a pain in the arse to get parts for.
Dave said it was running when he parked it in the 90s so if I get it going I'll run it but I have plans for something with a bit more poke.

Nice score mate, as for the plates, IF the original owners ticked the box to make them transferable, you have a nice set of plates, otherwise, they look good on the wall! The ones that came on my Beetle can't be transferred, but they look good on the wall.

As for the engine, ditch it and build something worthwhile Wink

Bah... just means it will take you longer to get the 2110 built... Do it all in one swoop!
Also... find someone to buy my beetle Wink
