Got the engine in tonight.... Just finished!! Shocked But we have a few minor problems and I'm just flat out of time.... So the bus is going down to Kurt's for a new starter motor and possibly a new Generator.... The stuff on the old girl are sounding a little iffy!.... Can't wait to hear it running.... That A1 Sidewinder (the real deal here guys!) looks mean, fits very well and it top shelf all the way.... Perfect for a low bus IMHO!

Bus was sorted yesterday.... Brian took is down to Kurt's for a little love, but all seemed to be ok'ish.... My main concern was the ignition, timing (as I believed the diss drive was 180º out) and the starter. As it turns out the coil was the main problem.... I was down the shop last night after work, so I changed out the coil and then she fired right up.... Kurt then finished off a few things for Brian today and he is now a very happy dubber....

Congrats dude.... Enjoy the drive across this wide brown land...

Just looked through Brian's fotos again.... This bus cracks me up.... I really like how the fog lamp is just kinda hangin' there.... Flaccid like...

Great bus this....

Brian called me tonight about the latest.... Seems the seals under the oil cooler are leaking... Luckily B was near Dave's place when this happened.... And it's still not running right.... I suspect the ol'girl still has bad fuel issues.... I'm sure they will get the last teething problems sorted...

Tomorrow we will give the bus the ultimate litmus test... A short drive to Northam for lunch.... I'll bring the tools.

Wink

Almost all sorted! Still got a few niggling issues to sort out - getting a new carb, vacuum dizzy etc to solve the hassles.

I gotta say though that without the help of Humpty, Patrick, and Dave, this trip may have gone very pear shaped! Thanks heaps lads - I don't know how I'll ever repay you lot for your help and advice but I'm always here if you need me to lend hand at anything!

I'm planning on stating a full thread from start to finish just as soon as I get the bus on the train for shipping, then will continue with photos etc as we all progress back from Valla to rainy Perth Smile

Even got a couple of OS mags interested in running some stories on our big adventure!

So it seems that Brian's bus has proved rather reluctant to go on this massive trip across the country.... It seems that one problem after another has presented itself, in the vain hope that she will stay locked up in the shed and not venture to Valla.... Well we have news for you little lady.... Your going if it means a total heart transplant damn it!

So Dave and Brian worked valiantly to set the oil cooler leak problem right earlier this week... After much research on my part and even more spannering on their part, the boys managed to get the correct combination of parts to make the oil cooler oil tight... surely this would mean its ready to go?.... You'd think so wouldn't you?... But no.... The old girl had other ideas... All of a sudden, we have a low oil pressure problem.... Whats with that?.... After much scratching of grey matter we have traced the oil pressure issue to a badly reamed pressure relief valve gallery.... It looks like someone has had a real 'go' at the main gallery (FW) valve in the past and cocked it up royally... I have spent most of this arvo trying to fix the problem, but its just not gonna happen.... There is nothing for it... The crankcase is buggered.... So the decision was made to pull my old 1835 out from under the bench and put it to good use in the bus....

And that is what I have been doing this afternoon.... I have fitted all the tinware, carb (DCNF Weber... Nice an old school that!), a spare alternator I had laying about, a fresh fuel pump, an 09 out of the stash and various other bits and she is very nearly ready to chuck in....

Jobs for tomorrow morning are to source some front tin for the firewall (this engine is an 'Doghouse' twin port), fit the electronic ignition, make up the carb linkage, fit the Sidewinder Zorst, rewire the engine bay, plumb the fuel and fit the engine...

Hope the weather is better tomorrow!!! Shocked

Thanks to a massive effort from Patrick, we got the engine in.... We had to cut a corner or two, but its in and going.... Good oil pressure, good compression.... Crappy zorst.. Crying or Very sad Couldn't get the Sidewinder off the other engine without damage... I know how I can get it sorted, but it will take me a couple of hours to modify... So that system wil not be making the trip to Valla.... Fitted up the bus' old zorst... Its not very pretty, but it will work... Had to make a new linkage for the DCNF Weber carb (Thanks Pat for the brilliant fab work). And I managed to get all the little boring bits sorted... Fired her up tonight at 6.30 and all is good.... A few minor things to finish off tomorrow and we are ready to roll....

Man what a saga this has been!
