I picked up this '62 beetle from a garage sale in Natimuk in 2011. There was another mid 60's bug there but it wasnt for sale.

Haven't done a hell of a lot on the bug as my type 3 notchback projects have jumped the queue...

here are some pics of the ol' girl seeing daylight for the first time in many years...

In preparation of getting the 68 notch in the shed to start work on it,the beetle has to come out. There was some rust in the front of my beetle which needed to be repaired before the beam could go under.

So over the past week i have attempted my first ever rust repairs. All i knew was the very basics of welding so I gave it a go.

I did it all myself and overall im pretty happy with my efforts for a first ever attempt at fixing rust.

Here are some progress pics..

Passenger side.

Driver side.

a section on the inside, didnt get any pics of welding this in.

more on the outside, did this in 2 sections, didnt get any pics of these ground back...

sanded back, primed and painted in and around the front...

So the next job will be prepairing the inner guards, priming them and giving them a coat of pearl white. Then it will be ready for the beam. getting closer to having it back on wheels so we can get the Red notch in Smile

Bit of an update.

Over the past week I have prepared, primed and painted the inner guards and put the beam under. Nice to have the bug back on 4 wheels and rolling again Smile Shouldnt be to long and this will be out of the shed and the 68 notch will be in!

Some pics...
